Popular Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington has been rearrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The controversial singer was arrested in Owerri, the Imo State capital, according to a post by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
The rapper who was arrested two months ago for allegedly defaming his colleague, Burna Boy, was picked up while performing at a show in Owerri, days after returning to the country earlier in the week.
“Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” Adeyanju wrote on X.
In another post he made on Facebook, the Human rights lawyer wrote, “If Burna Boy was allegedly defamed in the US, UK, EU or any civilized society, can he use police to arrest Speed Darlington? Burna Boy can only oppress Akpi in a country like Nigeria. If you ever feel defamed, sue & stop using police to harass people.”
Darlington was first arrested on 4 October following the release of a controversial video in which he allegedly defamed a fellow musician, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy over his link with the embattled American rapper Diddy.
He was arrested in Lagos and transferred to Abuja before being detained by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area of Abuja.
He was then released on bail on 9 October after spending five days in detention.
