Reactions trail Chidinma’s emergence as Miss Universe Nigeria
Reactions have continued to pour in as Chindinma Adetshina was crowned as Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.
Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father, the beauty queen recently withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant following a backlash that she is not eligible to contest based on nationality.
Chidinma’s experience led the organisers of the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria to invite her to contest in this year’s edition.
The model was crowned the winner of the pageant. Her victory has generated diverse reactions as some Nigerians insisted that the organisers were not fair to other contestants.
Expressing her opinion, internet sensation, @MumZee decried that the organisers gave Chidinma publicity at the detriment of other contestants.
She wrote, “Being invited to contest is enough publicity, this is really unfair to the other girls who worked hard for this.
Issokay.”
@Afrokonnect also wrote, “They gave this lady the award to appease her while ignoring the other women who have dedicated years of effort.”
Another X user, Maneek had an opposing opinion, stressing that, “Those saying she won out of pity are not okay. How can you say that? Did you see the lineup? Which other contestant stood a chance against Chidinma? You all should rest. Allow that lady to enjoy her win, she has been through a lot.”
Emmanuel Ocheme recalled that, “Just like VDM predicted earlier…it was all arranged for her to win!”
“I watched the show from start to finish, she had a great swim suit walk, poised with the evening gown walk, answered her question with no stuttering. She deserved the win fair and square,” were the words of @Gracebal∅.
Josephine wrote, “She doesn’t deserve it,if we’re being honest.But my country loves the ‘pity me’ game .what happened to the other contestants she met there? I hope she’s worth the representation, though.”
@Ishow_leck also said, “Nigerians compensate based on emotions too much, leaving their own people into mess. Like everyone daw this coming.”
