Alleged brutality: Police respond to Laide Bakare
The Lagos State Police Command has denied allegations that its men harassed and extorted popular actress, Laide Bakare.
The actress had earlier accused men of the command of extorting her N70,000 after harassing her in the Ikorodu area of the state.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, discredited the account of the actress, claiming that she was stopped for violating traffic laws.
Hundeyin further knocked Bakare for painting the police bad after she tried to create a scene at the place where the offence was committed.
In a post he made on X, the PPRO wrote, “You were stopped for contravening traffic laws by driving on the BRT lane.
“You chose to create a scene. You chose to remain out of your vehicle when it was being taken to the LAMATA office.
“And the officers were not going to succumb to your gimmick to hold them down at that spot.
“You paid the N70,000 fine for your offense into the government coffers. Not a finger was laid on you. You left with the receipt and your vehicle.”
