Dr Marienne Abimbola Da Silva, the woman who took legendary Nigerian actress, Joke Silver from the orphanage Along side her extraordinary kindness, is a brilliance which led to great achievements in her lifetime.
She was said to have had a strong attachment to the medical profession, an attachment which brought her great esteem and accolades during her lifetime In the cause of her life, she was given the honorable award of Officer of the Order of The Niger, OON. She no doubt impacted this same greatness to Nollywood giant, Joke Jacobs nee Da Silva, who happens to be her adopted daughter.
The story of the adoption of Joke Jacobs right from the orphanage was a touching one and testifies to the greatness of Dr Marienne Da Silva. She was said to have kept it a secret, an action obviously meant to make her adopted daughter feel comfortable and confident while being raised.
Like a biological mother, Marienne Da Silver deployed her wealth and stopped at nothing to make veteran actress, Joke Jacobs who she is today. Her foster daughter, Joke Silva who did not only acquire her education from Nigeria but also at the Webber Douglas Academy of Drama, London is as distinguished as the woman who raised her as she has numerous wards to show for this.
Dr Marienne Da Silva’s, adopted daughter, legendary actress, Joke Jacobs, like her mother received one of Nigeria’s highest recognitions, as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic. Dr Marienne Abimbola Da Silva departed the earth peacefully and fulfilled at the age of 89.
Joke Silva stated a few years back that disclosed that she got to know the truth of her adoption by accident as her adopted parents, Chief E.A Silva and the late Dr Abimbola Silva.
She was digging up some old documents of hers when she stumbled upon the adoption papers.
In her own words: “I got to know years later when I wanted to travel and was looking for my passport where my mum kept it. Since she was not around, I opened the box in her absence and I saw my adoption papers. I never discussed it with my mum because I felt it was something that would hurt her, that was why, it was kept secret from me,”
