Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has admitted that the sickness that led to Carl Ikeme’s retirement, is his biggest regret in charge of the team.
Speaking on Monday Night football, Rohr described the experience and quite painful and heartbreaking.
“If there is one thing I would say gave me the greatest headache, it was the sickness of Carl Ikeme, it was very disappointing,” he said.
It will be recalled that Ikeme contributed in no small measure to Nigeria’s qualification for the last World Cup in Russia, putting up impressive performances in the qualifiers leading to the tournament. Unfortunately, the 32-year-old was diagnosed with acute leukemia just before the start of the World Cup, forcing out of both national and club assignments.
