People with high taste, who listen to Abel Dosunmu records, or watch his live performance at any event cannot but continue to listen to his songs because of his well-coordinated lyrics and the unique styles he blends it with. His rare passion and persistence have carved a niche for him. He has also been a source of pride to up-and-coming Musicians.
In this exclusive interview with Michael Adekunle, Nigeriafilms.com correspondent, while recording in a studio at Ile- Epo Oke Odo,a suburb here in Lagos State, the high flying Musician who is a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago Iwoye in Ogun State, whose musical career started in1994,spoke on his saddest moment in his chosen field. Can you shed some lights into a challenge you faced some years back which you pray never to experience again till eternity? Thanks a lot, I faced a lot of challenges, but one of the unforgettable moments I pray never to experience again in life is the one that got me embarrassed and disgraced publicly at Oshogbo.
I was invited to perform at a party in Oshogbo, the show was to commence in the afternoon, meanwhile we had already rented instruments from our colleague at Mushin before the deal day, after paying for his charges, hoping that he would be there before us and deliver as he had promised, suddenly,we were told that some people were making use of the instruments,we had to stay till the next day when the instruments would be handed over. However, we left around eleven or twelve noon before setting out for Oshogbo from Lagos.
Unfortunately for us, the party ended before we got there, we only met table water, spoons, dishes, remnants of the food people ate, empty tables and chairs on the ground, I became confused, paralyzed and dejected at that point.
The celebrant was vibrating, lavishing words on us, he was highly furious and threatened to sue me for the havoc, shame and disappointment I brought to him, but I pleaded, also, I ran to people to apologize on my behalf, after a long time apology, he later accepted.
I was completely ashamed of myself that very day, though it was not my fault, it was the Engineer that delayed and caused the whole mess up, but a blame cannot be apportioned on him, it is still me that would bear the blame, I knew I had disappointed a lot of people who came to grace the occasion that very day.
This gave me the reason to acquire my own ultra-modern musical instruments to avoid further embarrassment. In fact, it was really a sad moment for me because I suffered the trauma of the incident for sometimes.
