Newly appointed Interim National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Kanayo O Kanayo, has said that the guild is currently experiencing a new dawn.
The veteran actor, who was sworn in alongside other executives in a well-attended ceremony in Surulere last weekend by the guild’s Board of Trustees (BOT), reiterated that his mission is to reposition AGN and conduct an election according to the members’ wish.
He, however, called on his colleagues and other stakeholders in the industry to embrace peace and unity in order to restore the lost glory of AGN.
His short-speech at the event, which was attended by popular actors and AGN representatives in other states, reads: “The exigencies of the time call for a sober reflection. It is indeed with a deep sense of humility and duty that my colleagues and I, have accepted the invitation by the BOT to serve our noble guild in interim capacities, for the next six months.
“We place on record, our profound gratitude to the BOT, for finding us worthy of overseeing the affairs of our noble guild at this time. To us, the most fundamental agenda that should agitate our minds at this time is to evolve strategies for stabilizing our guild.
“While we do not intend to apportion blames, we are compelled to reform our noble guild. Actors constitute the fulcrum of Nollywood. Our revered status must be jealously guarded.
“In concluding, may I solicit your support and understanding as we ‘hit the ground running’. Six months is just next door. Our sleeves are rolled up. Get on board and help build a virile guild.”
NollywoodReel gathered that apart from Bimbo Manuel that will act as KOK’s deputy, other members of the team include star actress, Clarion Chukwura and Charles Okafor, who will serve as the guild’s image-maker.
According to Clarion, “Today is a necessity because this is a profession we have put all we have into for many years, and we cannot fold our arms to see it shattered.”
The former chairman of AGN, Lagos chapter, Remy Ohajianya, referring to the swearing-in ceremony, said: “Today is the time of the Lord. Change comes when God permits it and today, we are here for change in a positive way.”
