Following the viral reports of 11million votes that was cast by Nigerians for housemates in the home-run of reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, former minister of the federal republic, Oby Ezekwesili, has questioned why Nigerians have not been able to translate that zeal to issues of national importance such as the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
Oby Ezekwesili who expressed herself in a series of tweets raised a number of vital areas that should also make Nigerians active towards making their voice count.
Although she was later corrected by another twitter user who clarified that the 11 million votes were not necessarily from 11 million people, Oby Ezekwesili who obviously wasn’t following the show, accepted the correction but not without pointing out that her tweet was all about making everyone know they can maximise their power of choice in other areas with the same zeal.
Do you agree with Oby? Do you think that Nigerians are actually not maximising their power of choice to make equally forceful demand on government the way the BBN campaigns for housemates have gone so far? 11 million votes translating to N330 million in one night.
Whatever your take may be, Oby Ezekwesili has been able to turn the national consciousness to the Chibok Girls crusade. In ten days, it will be exactly three years since the girls were abducted, and 195 of them are still reportedly held captive somewhere. Sadly, the zeal to make a demand on the government of the day to expedite action on the subject has burned low on the part of the masses.
