Twelve children have been rescued from the custody of the founder of Voice of Salvation Charitable Organisation, Pastor Onoyngu Chibuike, in Ojo area of Lagos State. Government accused the pastor of operating an illegal orphanage since 2010.
But the pastor, who insisted that he was not operating an illegal orphanage, claimed that the establishment of the home was a divine call. It was learnt that nemesis caught up with Chibuike last week when one of the children in his care took ill and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Enquiries from the hospital about the medical history of the child showed that the orphanage is not registered under the Lagos State Government as stipulated in law.
Twelve out of the 15 children in his custody were rescued and immediately taken over by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development while two were left with the Voice of Salvation.
It was also learnt that the last one child who is still in the hospital would be monitored by officials of the ministry. But reacting to the arrest and allegation during a preliminary interrogation, Chibuike claimed that he received a call from God to start the orphanage over six years ago to rescue helpless children from societal vices and which, according to him, made him registered the orphanage with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2010.
