This year’s edition of the popular Amstel Malta’s Box Office will formally kick off with the entry of ten lucky Nollywood acts into the AMBO House on Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday.
The lucky ten, selected from over 12,000 entries received for the reality television show across the nation, would have their first test of action in their quest for fame and fortune.
For 21 days, TV viewers and Nollywood buffs across Nigeria and Africa, would have the opportunity to see these youngsters showcase their skills from Tuesday, 17 November, 2009, on AIT, DSTV, Africa Magic, TVC, Galaxy TV, ITV, Benin, IBC, Owerri and CRBC, Calabar.
The closing show will be held on Saturday, 5 December, 2009, at The MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
This year’s show is expected to thrill viewers to no end, if the observation of the Nollywood stars who were judges at the audition is taken into consideration.
Nkiru Sylvanus and Offia Mbaka, two top Nollywood stars, commended Amstel Malta for the high quality of contestants vying for positions in this year’s edition of AMBO.
Both stars, who were judges at the Enugu zone of the audition of the popular Nollywood-focused reality television show, said they were very impressed by the quality of stars shortlisted for the audition currently taking place across the country.
The reality TV programme was launched mid-October and auditions were held in Benin, Enugu, Owerri, Kaduna and Lagos. The Judges include Nobert Young, Cyrus the Virus, Nkiru Sylvanus and Offia Mbaka.
The winner is expected to go home with N2.5 million, a brand new car and a role in a Nollywood blockbuster movie, while the second to 10 placed contestants would also go home with cash prizes.
According to Ngozi Nkwoji, Amstel is partnering with Nollywood to ensure that the Nigerian movie industry remains healthy and vibrant by helping to search and select talents that will drive the growth of the Nigerian film industry.
The partnership, christened Amstel Malta Box Office, is expected to produce talents that will drive Nigerian movie industry.
AMBO made its debut in 2005 and has so far produced four winners. The winner of first edition christened AMBO1, was Azizat Sadiq, who went on to feature as the lead character in Sitanda, the Amstel Malta Box Office blockbuster movie.
The second edition was won by O.C. Ukeje and his movie was Whitewaters, while the third edition was won by Bhaira Mcwizu, whose movie was Cindy’s Notes. The 2008 edition was won by Wole Ojo and his movie has been shot and would be premiered soon.
