An artiste, Mr Aginam Benjamin, says the use of the internet to promote songs is better than using marketers.

Benjamin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday that marketers were not encouraging the growth of artistes, especially the upcoming ones.

“Marketers like to buy the original copy of the music, discouraging the artiste by inferring that the song might not sell well in the market.

“When such upcoming artistes have no money to push the song to limelight, they end up selling the original copy to the marketers.

“Instead of them to encourage one musical talent, they discourage such talent because they want to make huge money out of the artiste,“ Benjamin said.

He said marketers often go into agreement that would favour them rather than the artistes, claiming that they spend money on advertisement and marketing.

Benjamin said the use of the internet was better than marketers since such works could not be pirated.

He said such songs could also not be downloaded on the internet without payment.

“I prefer the use of internet than using marketers because I do make my money through it without fear,’’ he said.

He said that there were agreements between owners of songs and internet providers like You-Tube, Caller-Tune and other websites dedicated to promoting music.

“The idea is that they are helping to protect intellectual properties and saving one against piracy, “ he said.

Benjamin said that the internet was the sole hope of artistes for the future. (NAN)
