Stop the bloodshed!!! Not everyone in Aluu killed Ugonna, Lloyd, Tekena & Chidiaka – Stephanie Okereke-Linus

Nollywood actress – Stephanie Okereke-Linus has also openly condemned the killing of four undergraduate students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) by indigenes of Aluu community. Read her statement below;

I have been in shock since the news broke about the four young students slaughtered like chickens in a community called Aluu.

At what point did we lose compassion for our fellow human beings? Death is assured for every life eventually, but no one deserves to die like those young men died – no one! Death dishonoured them. Even in justice there should be civility and modesty. That is why we are humans, and not beasts grovelling in the jungle. That is why we are made in God’s likeness so that we can be like Him – kind, merciful and fair.

Ugonna, Lloyd, Tekana, Chidiaka were young men with dreams and aspirations; Lloyd was already on his way to becoming a rap artiste; who knows what else these men had dreamed up for their future? But with many swipes from heavy metals and planks their dreams were slayed. It is the most gruesome act I have ever seen and I am afraid how this action reveals the true state and sentiments of many Nigerians.

Why do we permit jungle justice? Do we feel helpless with the system thus take justice into our own hands? What are our fears? What would ever justify the actions of a community that stole the lives of students who lived amongst them – lives that only God can give?

We may never know the truth of what really led to the killings at Aluu – that truth died with the four of them. All we can ask is for justice. That is the only way the tears of the mothers of these young lives may dry. It is the only way we all can feel safe because no matter the situation, lives should not be snatched so brutally. This is a society with laws.

As we seek for what is right, let death not procure more deaths. We do not need to burn down Aluu community. We do not need to shed more blood. Not every child, mother and father in the community killed or endorsed the killing of the young men. They too deserve to be protected from the brutality that has ensued from all of this.

Life is a beautiful thing; do not steal another’s opportunity to experience it.

May their deaths not be in vain.

No justice will assuage the grief of the bereaved families of the four young men as well as that of every hurting Nigerian other than an eye-for-eye; death for all those involved in the conspiracy and murder of those boys just to send a categorical message to those people who take laws into their hands.

I cried when I watched the video of Aluu mob slaughtering those boys. At first I thought it was a horrific movie, only to be told later by my nephew it was indeed real...may the souls of those boys and the tears of every concerned person bring condemnation upon the land of Aluu. Their children and children-children, fathers and mothers shall suffer worse death.

I think, this is a time for the Nigerian Government to stand up against misappropriation of criminal justice by hooligans who are in no way part of the security and law enforcement arm in Nigeria. Government must send very strong signal to the entire nation...charge every one involved in that horrendous act with first degree murder and punish them accordingly to serve as deterrent to other hoodlums that might want to attempt similar act in future. Vigilante groups must have to comply with governing rules...catch criminals and hand over to the appropriate law enforcement to investigate and prosecute to ensure that innocent lives are not terminated wrongfully.
The blood of those young men must not go in vain for those boys could be martyrs of social change....a conscious wakeup call for every Nigerian especially the Government to address the huge security issues in Nigeria.

Our condolences go to the families of the deceased and may the souls of the departed find eternal rest....amen!

Mrs Stephanie (bought husband) Linus,

First of all i will not insult you even though i am boiling here with ANGER and melancholy. You wrote your mombo jumbo here regarding these INNOCENT beautiful boys that were TORTURED n KILLED like they were NOTHING! Yes we know death comes for all of us but these poor boys life were stolen from them. It was not their time to die! Due to the useless government Nigeria has as rulers has enabled this inhuman act to happen. Be thankful to God that it was not your brother or a member of your family or even your husband that was killed in this most VILE way! Even men on death-roll are given befitting death and even last meal! But these boys were made to feel like they were nothing! My point is whatever it takes to STOP these disgusting, VILE, despicable acts of burning human-beings and torturing them should to death should be STOPPED NOW and should NEVER happen EVER again! This is the millennium and the government should enforce a law that will stop this. No village should have the right to find anybody guilty, humiliate them, then burning them with tyres! Ugonna, Lloyd, Tekana, Chidiaka should not be discarded or EVER forgotten! Their deaths should not be in vain and we must ensure that these beautiful boys remain beautiful in our eyes and not see them the way they were killed.

Big horse face stéphanie abegi if you no get the solution to this predicament that we are all going through kindly FHUCK off cos you do not know what the families of these beautiful boys are going through! As my lolo said you were paid to vote for that buffalo face una call president! Thank God me or my family no longer live in nigeria! Tufiaaakwwwwaaaa!!!

Death is painful, but Chidiaka, Ugonna, Tekena and Lloyds, stands out.Everyone should put him or herself in the shoes of their parents and siblings.I thought Stephanie was making sense but the conclusion was so unreasonable. Were there no pastors or mothers in the village who could have fought for them to live?I live here in Ghana, and after seeing the video, that inhumanity always runs through my mind.Thousands of deaths can never be equivilent to theirs.

She condemned the act and felt the pain of the families of the 4 boys. I agree with her and I deeply shared the grief of these boys' families. If we truly condemn the crime committed by those who took law in to their hands and lynched life out of these 4 boys, we should not encourage the rampage going on unabated now in Aluu community. This is what Stephanie is advocating for in the concluding end of her write up. The cycle of bitterness should be broken. Hurt people hurt people and the cycle will continue. We should educate our people to work with Law enforcement agencies. If you catch a criminal, hand him/her to the Law enforcement agent. Our government and the judicial system should enlist the trust of the people by providing prompt justice in any situation expected of them by the society. When this is ascertained and done, jungle justice will become history.

The truth
xisxter | 10/13/2012 11:35:32 PM
The cycle of violence, hatred and revenge is the way that satan keeps the world under bondage. GOD uses people to do good, satan uses people to do bad. It is up to you and me to decide on whose part you want to belong. People out of ignorant and under bondage think that physical weapon such as guns, knives, machete, jealousy, hatred etc are the solution. The only weapon that you can use to defeat satan is the spiritual weapon such as love, kindness, patience, forgiveness etc. These qualities scare satan like s**t and keeps it under the pit of hell where it belongs. I love Mandela, he is my mentor.

The only way to solve the problem is for Aluu community to bring out those who carried out the brutality of the Four students to the law enforcement agencies or to their parents. They can do what seems right with them. Thats all. If not, the whole community of ALUU, both those who took part in the action and not will suffer for the crime.

After watching this video, nothing can change my mind abt Nigerians. Even though this can happen in any African country, I was shocked to the bones that these people took the law into their own hands and tortured these uni guys to the extent of burning them like total strangers and animals. Even animals can't be treated like the way these young guys were treated by their own people. What is Nigeria turning into? All those involved must face the law including both the camera men and the woman who raised the alarm, ..What did those standingby did to save these innocent boys? I'm no more gona entertain any Nigerian around me .. God will surely deal with all those involved. Haba.. no pity, no shame , no sympathy,.....

Dvoice | 10/14/2012 6:04:49 PM
Steph dear
You have spoken well but those boys where killed like the were snakes we kill even chicken we eat with more honor than the way those boys were killed. Like someone mentioned if the boys were just shot which is also murder, their death would have been less painful and the memory of their death will not have registered in our thought the way it has. It been 9 days but still I can't get their murder and the video out of my head. Imagine what their relatives will be going through ? Everyone in aluu that faithful day participated by not doing anything to stop the killings. We all know how bad news spread . Someone who heard or saw would have told the other person who would tell the other person and they all shrugged it off and maybe said god don catch them . In every community, there is this nice or awful person that people respects and yield to their instruction. Where were they that day? Where was the mothers of that community ? The cry of Just one mother that day would have made a different.... They killed those boys like people who had malice and hatred for them . That won't be far fetched as the boys were fine boys and going with their pictures, they looked good and dresses well.... Something drastically has to be done to aluu to send message to everyone who suddenly make themselves lord over people's life once they catch a supposed thief....
I know when a thief is caught, they make them dance round the village naked carrying what they stole... Where is the evidence of what they stole and if they were cult boys were is the weapons they were caught with ?
If they were esans like me, there is this ritual they carry out on people who they suspect were killed..... I tell you if they do that , the aluu's would have felt happier if they were wiped out than what we befall them......
Am boiling my heart is aching for their parents but I pray god give them the needed strength at this tring period....... Justice for aluu 4

Certainly, it is time to create such a coinucl. By all measures, education, mental health, suicide rates, unemployment and underemployment, boys and men are in distress. In truth we can not effectively build strong family units without addressing the boy crisis and the unique challenges facing today's young men. Some where along the line we got the message that our boys will just be ok, without any supports from the greater community. We are wrong! They need us now to have the moral compass to come to their side in the same way we responsed to girls and women just a few generations ago. What does it say about us? That we love our girls and leave our boys to make it the best way that they can? We must do better!

I live in Surinam, a peacefull country. When I saw the video four days after the killings, I tought it was a joke. A Nigerian friend of my told me it was not. The only thing I want to say to the Nigerian Government is that they should hang them high. Is there no police in this place called Aluu? Where were the policemen when it happened? What is the population of Aluu? Is it possible that 19 or 20 men between hundreds or thousands of the Aluu people can decide if I am going to die? Could anyone give me some answers?
