There are reports that the Save Funmi Lawal campaign going round may be fake as a message purportedly from Funmi Lawal, who is believed to need about 4million Naira to treat a cancer on her shoulder, has reportedly debunked news that she is sick and needs help. Few days ago, a broadcast went round which read, "Hello people! pls help my friend Funmilayo lawal resently diagnos of a MALIGNANT SARCOMA, a kind of cancer at the shoulder region.
"The cancer has become so extensiv wch might affect some oda parts of the body if a surgery is not done as soon as possible. It could nt just cost her hand but its life threaten.
"Pls help, the doctors required dt she should go abroad 2 do it within 4weekz wch will cost $15000(4Million). Pls help save my life. Acc No. GTB FUNMILAYO LAWAL 0002655164. Pls no amount is too small. plsss. God bless u."Debunking the story, a broadcast was purportedly sent from Funmi this morning. "The BC below was sent by a fraud. Thanks."A source close to Funmi told Nigeriafilms.com that Funmi is hale and hearty and that she is surprised about the broadcast going round about her. Another lawyer friend of Funmi disclosed to us that the whole thing is not a scam. He claimed that Funmi is actually sick and needs 4million Naira for medical treatment. We put a call through to Funmi, but our calls were not picked. She kept aborting our calls. Meanwhile, Nollywood star actress, Funke Akindele-Oloyede would have been a fallen victim of 'Save Funmi' fraud as a youngman identified as Ayanniyi Kayode allegedly sent her a direct message on Twitter claiming Funke should donate some money to his personal account in order to save Funmi instead of the initial one. This, as Nigeriafilms.com gathered, the boy claimed that the publicised bank account dedicated for donation was fake but his was the original account. This was quickly discovered as fraud by Funke, who we learnt has reported the case to the police. Funmi is suffering from Sarcoma and she has been told by doctors to embark on surgery immediately. Of a truth, yesterday a young man named Ayanniyi Kayode tried to play a fast one on Funke Akindele by sending her his own account details as the account for Funmi. this was discovered immediately and the young man was shutdown. Please note however that the campaign is still on, the target of #4m is still yet to be reached, your funds will go a long way in helping Funmi to overcome this cancer. The bank manager of where that Fraudulent activities take place shoud be prosecuted in the Court of Law If there is any in Nigeria.
