As several Nigerians continue to express theirdisappointment at the dismal performance of Team Nigeria at the just concludedLondon 2012 Olympics, a wide range ofentertainers who described the outing as disappointing and poor are showingtheir grievances on the team and government.
They attributed the failure of Team Nigeria to Jonathan’s inept and visionlessleadership, which is evident in every facet of our national lives. They alsocalled on government at all levels to stop wasting tax payers’ money onjamborees and frivolities that will end up making the country bankrupt.
DJ SPIN’ALL (DISC JOCKEY) Nobody should be disappointed, it only proved to the world that Nigeria is failing in everything or what did youu expect to be the fate of countries that have started training four years ago compared to Nigerians who just started training two months before the event? We shouldn’t shout too much. This is what we deserve.
IFEANYI EZEKWE (MOVIE PRODUCER) The Olympic spirit is about participation not winning. Team Nigeria failed because the administrators didn’t want us to win anything. Otherwise how do you explain the lack of training until ten weeks to the games? They will tell you lack of funds, yet they are building castles in Aso Rock, even civil servants too. Or maybe Boko Haram disrupted their training programmes. Only God will help Nigeria.
ELDER O (COMEDIAN) When preparation meets opportunity you achieve results. As far as I’m concerned, it was a shameful outing considering the fact that millions of naira if not dollars were budgeted for the preparations ahead of the Olympics. Well I just pray that they’ll begin early to prepare for the next one.
ANNABELLA ZWYNDILLA (ACTRESS) I’m of the opinion that we should look at the brighter side of life, because our athletes still outshone other countries. But I also think it’s high time we settle for quality rather than politics. The choice of who to represent Nigeria in any international game should be based on professional savvy, rather than on ‘who do you know syndrome’.
SAFARIE (SINGER) It’s really a shameful thing; we shouldn’t have bothered going at all to fool ourselves. You can’t expect success if you haven’t prepared for it. Lack of motivation by the government is also another reason Nigeria performed badly.
OCHENDO MCSMITH They should stop wasting taxpayers’ money. The preparation was nothing to write home about, it was so shoddy. How do you expect a Nigerian athlete to beat Usain Bolt when all the facilities in our stadium are obsolete?
IYANYA (MUSICIAN)
I consider it sad that our guys went to London and came back with nothing. I understand it is not easy in sports, but I expect that they should at least do us proud by bringing a medal home. This is unfortunate and I hope it is a lesson for us. Success comes after preparation
BANKY W (MUSICIAN)
Sports isn’t an easy game, but we expected that these people would make us proud. I am also aware how much the government spent on the game. So, it is sad that despite such a huge amount of money being spent, nothing was achieved. It is high time we start taking our sports serious in Nigeria. The entertainment industry is doing well and we expect the same in other areas.
SAUCE KID (MUSICIAN)
It’s all a shame that we couldn’t win a medal at the Olympics. It simply shows we are not yet ready to take over Africa. Nigeria as a country is seen as the best in sports and music but the reverse is the case now. How can the giant of Africa perform so poor in the competition? I am not happy about result.
AY (COMEDIAN)
It’s obvious we expected too much from the boys and girls but it was clear they couldn’t do more than that. We all know the government wasted so much money but what can anybody do about that now? The best we can do now is to begin to prepare the people we have now for the next competition. This is necessary so that they don’t mess us up like these ones have done now.
DJ HUMILITY (DISC JOCKEY)
What a shame indeed. We cannot wish to win, we cannot pray to win, we cannot dream to win and we cannot hope to win. You cannot think to win. You cannot win by luck. You must work hard to win. This is what Nigeria needs to do if they’re serious about winning. It’s very disappointing when I look at the medal counts and Nigerian flag is not among them and you see that of other countries.
ELENU (COMEDIAN)
In reality we should not expect any medal at all. All our officials and athletes went there to enjoy themselves and they are doing very well and when they come back they will still set committee for themselves to still waste our money. What a funny and sorry case.
IYABO OJO (ACTRESS)
The preparations for the Olympics have been particularly shoddy and irresponsible. The so-called Nigerian team to this year’s Olympics was ill-prepared. Are we ready to contest for places on the victory podium against the world’s best nurtured, best prepared, and best motivated athletes who are products of years of well-organised developmental programmes and international exposure to world class competition?”
CYNTHIA AGHOLOR (ACTRESS)
I didn’t expect our people to perform well because the country is not at peace-terrorism, crashes, hardship and mass killings everywhere-all pointing to Jonathan’s inept leadership. No matter how we may be divided in the country we are still one and believe me we share one another’s pains. You don’t hope for the best when people are busy praying for the peace of the country instead of gold in the Olympics.
BOB MANUEL (ACTOR)
As for the Olympics, we need to prepare well next time. Otherwise the same dismal performance will repeat in Brazil! That’s if we qualify anyway.
LILIAN DIZO (ACTRESS)
It’s really unfortunate and very disappointing. It’s shown how unprepared and unserious we are when it comes to sports in Nigeria. That was a very poor outing for Nigeria; I don’t know when we would stop living in past glory.
Onyi Harry | 8/20/2012 5:45:44 AMI'm good in sports but the government won't choose me or any good person due to corruption or connection.

Taiwo Idowu NY | 8/20/2012 7:58:26 AMKudos to all the comments from above and i could not disagree with it.It was right on the money.I have always criticise the Nigerian Goverment every opportunity that i have. This shows how inept all goverment officials are including Ebele(Winter hat in summer)Jonathan. As long as all these rouges are in power,Nigeria will be laughing stock all over the world.Nigeria use to be the envy not only in Africa, but all over the world. Then boom all went downhill. Our image is tarnished being the most corrupt country in the world, and now this? This is where Nigerians are known to Excel and they waited two months befor the biggest sports event in the world to start training and expect to to win?.You and i know that is impossible.Nigeria athletics have lost their luster for the game and it will take miracles to get back to the forms of 1988.I understand where the Athletics are coming from. Why bust your ass when the Goverment don't give a crap about you?.The only thing the leadres are interested in is how to loot the treasury and don't care about the future of their own people. This is not only disgrace the athletics, but a disgrace to all Nigerians.Do you think they will learn from this?.I don't think so.Always playing the blame game.Motherf**kers.

You have said it o. You are so angry you even use the word "motherfhucker" which we have not heard you say since you have been writing here. Listen amigo no stress yaself! This is to be expected....dont expect anything good to come out of that nigeria o. At the olympics I swear I was there and I had to put on a fake accent so that people will not associate me with nigeria! They EMBARRASSED that nation no be small. The people incharge of the nigerian team KNEW that nigeria wasnt gonna make it but they pretended just to go there and chop money. They were all hanging out in all the hot spots for london instead of them to be doing their job! Even Mo farrah a somali british did his heritage country proud! You know what nigeria is is ridiculous it aint even funny no more. That by the by, hope you are ok and rocking n rolling in life sha o.!

You could see i was very and still angry when i wrote that piece earlier. Thanks for the advise not to stress my self.I can't help it sometimes seeing my country going downhill.I have just read an interview in Sahara Reporters giving by the Aide of Minister of Sports Mr Ogunro on 08/18/12 and was published on 08/20/12 which is today. This Ogunro said the only reason Nigeria did not win any Medals was because there was not enough money budgeted for the olympics. Really?.Not enough money?.The budget for the two weeks event was $13m which is about 2.2 Billion# and not enough money? Right".You do the maths. This man think he could come on the news and pull one over our head but we are smarter than that.He is the attack dog of his boss who could not face the media with his coward self.I could have call on Ebele(hot hat)Jonathan to weild his stick and fire all these do nothing in the minisry of sports and replace them with competent people.I know he is a coward too because he is sorrounded by crooks and looters. Can't wait for his term to expire.Who will replce him?.They are all the same rouge. We all know where the $13m went right?.To their pot bellies and into their bank accounts.Pls go and read the Sahara Reporters article dated 08/20/12.You could budget $100M and if it is not spent to the specifics that is meant for instead of diverting the money for other use, (Lining your pockets),it won't amount to nothing.

Taiwo, you have just lost all credibility by budding with Lalaland the evil hater. Shame on you. You have been on this site for a while now, you should know that he is a disgrace to manhood. The only people who buddy with him are fellow losers. You have just succeeded in joining them which is a shame. Bro, run for your dear life, he is a damaged good. Run, run, run real fast and maybe, just maybe, you might qualify to represent Naija in 100 Meters in Brazil. Bolt won't be there so you stand a chance.
Lalaland | 8/21/2012 2:52:38 AM |
You see that bad sheit breath ogunro so he and his crew have ALL chopped the money that is meant for sports! Even as we are writing this now australia are PREPARING for Rio 2016! They are not taking any chances and want to ensure that they WIN more medals! Even UK are now making sports a COMPULSORY curriculum in ALL schools which is FREE in Australia and UK and ensure that they have all the facilities FREE for students. David Cameron said that it is a MUST that children and youths be trained and taught in ALL sporting activities. What do nigeria do? Fhuckall! Like you said they line all the money in their pockets because of fhucking GREED!!! Those thieves will be punished one by one!

OUSCA2007 | 8/20/2012 3:29:58 PMWell for starters, NIGERIA did UNDER PREPARE the athletes, new talent is not being sourced and or supported ... equipment, gear, training, food, rest, accommodation, transportation, psychology and competition ....
That aside,
From the cost level, all those shouting about the "incredible" amount spent 13 million dollars.....
billion blah blah NAIRA .... LOL ..--
Great Britain spent £9.6 million =approximately 15 million dollars on JUST 8 boxers (male & female)with an expected medal return of 3 medals, they got 3 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze... 2 Nigerian born boxers by the way 1 gold, 1 bronze (Anthony Joshua Gold Super Heavyweight,Anthony Ogogo bronze middleweight)
So for just boxing alone, UK/GBR spent more than the budget of the entire TEAM NIGERIA on just Eight 8 Athletes...administered strategically and properly monitored over 4 years...
GBR ROWING TEAM: £27.3 million = 35 million Dollars , expected 6medals, got 9(4gold,2silver,3bronze)
GBR SWIMMING TEAM: £25.1million= 32 million Dollars, expected 5 medals, got 3(1silver,2bronze)....
My point, you have to put a lot, I mean A LOT !!! in to the planning and processing for competing against other nations and even then VICTORY/ SUCCESS is NOT assured...
So, compared to the super successful nations NIGERIA spent PEANUTS ....
My entry premise however needs to be addressed and with proper planning / administration Nigeria would spend a fraction of GBR/USA/RUSSIA/AUSTRALIA/CANADA etc costs and come out shining with loads of gold medals ... why we have the TALENT BASE .....
I stop for now...

Susana | 9/25/2012 10:44:40 AMDis tins are not just happening. All govt iittisutnons in Nigeria have over the years developed a culture of disregard & disrespect for the average citizen. It shows in the way an ordinary police recruit addresses you on the street, the military personnel also address you with belts & horse whips, while the civil servant/politician treats you with scorn once they have determined that you have nothing to offer them!Really sad case of being a Nigerian!!
